TRICK (2019) movie review

We horror fans love Halloween horror movies. We eat them up like Snicker's filled with razor-blades. We can't seem to get enough, and TRICK from Patrick Lussier really soothes the Halloween horror film sweet tooth. The film is violent and bloody, and for the most part keeps the viewer entertained, even when not exactly sure what is going on within the story-line.

TRICK kicks off on Halloween night 2015, Patrick “Trick” Weaver massacred his classmates at a costume party. After being arrested, he managed to escape police custody, but not before being shot five times by Detective Mike Denver (Omar Epps). Everyone believes Trick (Thom Niemann) must be dead, but when a masked killer reappears the following Halloween, and every Halloween after that, they realize the nightmare is not over. With Trick wreaking havoc and killing people in increasingly terrifying ways, Denver will stop at nothing to finish what he started and bring the carnage to an end.

As typically happens, the killer finds his way back next Halloween and embarks on another blood filled massacre. Is this really Patrick or just a good copycat version? Perhaps he's not even human?

The over-the-top script was co-written with “Jason X” writer Todd Farmer. Some of the writing actually feels a bit like a satire, but it's still fun and gruesome. Horror fans looking for something to add to their Halloween season watch list should enjoy most aspects of TRICK.
