The Tax Collector (2020) movie review

Chip Learner, MoreHorror.com,

The Tax Collector is a violent crime film that impresses with its shot photography, acting, and chilling character portrayal of "Creepy" aka "The Devil", wonderfully performed by seasoned actor Shia LaBeuof, whos literal function is to "terrorize the herd".

Director David Ayer brings us back into another world of Southern L.A., over the top crime-ridden violence and gangs.

Fans of Training Day and End of Watch will get more out of this than most viewers, and it's a strong entry into the canon of Ayers.

The film proves to be another brutal and bloody entry into the inner realm of gangland with familiar Ayers trope of family, honor, religion, and brotherhood.

In THE TAX COLLECTOR, David (Bobby Soto) and Creeper (Shia LaBeouf), are “tax collectors” for the crime lord Wizard, collecting his cut from the profits of local gangs’ illicit dealings. But when Wizard’s old rival returns to Los Angeles from Mexico, the business is upended, and David finds himself desperate to protect what matters more to him than anything else: his family. THE TAX COLLECTOR will be release on October 6, 2020 on DVD, Blu-ray and UHD/Blu-ray SteelBook. Written and directed by David Ayer (Fury, Suicide Squad), the action/thriller stars Bobby Soto (The Quarry, A Better Life), Cinthya Carmona (A Dark Foe), George Lopez (River Runs Red) and Shia LaBeouf (Honey Boy, Fury).
