The Dark and The Wicked (2020) review

Chanice Wilder, MoreHorror.com,

From the director of The Strangers (Bryan Bertino), one of the most popular horror films in modern times comes a creepy new descent into darkness, The Dark and the Wicked.

In THE DARK AND THE WICKED, on a secluded farm, a man is bedridden and fighting through his final breaths while his wife slowly succumbs to overwhelming grief.

Siblings Louise (Marin Ireland) and Michael (Michael Abbott Jr.) return home to help, but it doesn’t take long for them to see that something’s wrong with mom—something more than her heavy sorrow. Gradually, they begin to suffer a darkness similar to their mother’s, marked by waking nightmares and a growing sense that an evil entity is taking over their family.

Written and directed by Bryan Bertino (The Strangers), the film stars Marin Ireland (Hell or High Water), Michael Abbott Jr. (Mud) and Xander Berkeley (“The Walking Dead”).

There's something very grim and sinister about The Dark and The Wicked. The film hits all the notes that paranormal horror fans look for, and then exceeds them. The movie understands what it is and hammers the viewer over the head with subtle terror through the familiarity of life situations.

The Dark and The Wicked is a distressing film and one that every paranormal horror movie fan should seek out. Don't forget the popcorn.
