One Cut of the Dead is a slick little zombie comedy movie that touts a cast of mostly unknown actors and is exceptionally disguised as a low budget film. It has an epic, 37-minute opening single-take sequence which makes Shin'ichirô Ueda's feature debut a fresh, bloody, and hilarious zombie comedy film.
A crew is filming a zombie horror movie in an empty water filtration plant, supposedly utilized for sketchy human experiments via the military. As soon as the director shouts for better performances at his acting team and yells for extra special effects blood, an actual zombie apocalypse ensues, much to the giddiness of the director. Chock-full of genre movie references, this fun and persistent battle of the Living Dead flick is something fans of Shaun of The Dead or Return of the Living Dead should definitely seek out. In ONE CUT OF THE DEAD, while shooting a low-budget zombie film in an abandoned warehouse, the crew find themselves caught between actual zombies and a mad director who won’t stop rolling.
