House of Wax [Collector's Edition] Blu-ray review

MoreHorror.com,

House of Wax (2005) was a remake of 1953's House of Wax (which was a remake of the 1933 film, Mystery of the Wax Museum). The film received quite a bit of attention, particularly from director Jaume Collet-Serra's (Orphan) choice to put non-actor, Paris Hilton in the film.

The film has been released on Blu-ray previously from Shout! Factory, but the Collector's edition includes more extras than the previous version.

In the film, a group of friends decides to take a road trip to watch a football game in Louisiana and to camp out overnight in a field. When a mysterious truck arrives and blares its headlights at them, Nick (Chad Michael Murray; One Tree Hill), a former football player who ends up on the wrong side of the law, tosses a football and smashes one of the headlights. The next morning, Wade's (Jared Padalecki; Supernatural) fan belt snaps so he and his girlfriend, Carly (Elisha Cuthbert; 24) snag a ride into the nearest town by one of the locals. The town of Ambrose, while it seems empty, has a sinister secret of horror that will soon be uncovered by the group.

A bright note of this film will always be the surprisingly good acting of Paris Hilton. To this day, many of the comments we get when posting about this movie are that their favorite part is when Hilton "bites the dust", but we wish she was in the film longer! Hopefully, we see her in more horror films to come. The film itself is overall fun and fits great within the mid-2000 horror film archives.

The 1080p resolution is scanned from a brand new 2K restoration which provides a very sharp and clean picture with minimal noise or graininess. Colors are rich and fluid on the screen, even during darker scenes. Color correction is nice, and the blood, skin tones, and wax are all seen well and properly lit in high def.

Shout! Factory has included some new extras including an interview with Paris Hilton. Other extras include The Tale of Blake and Paige, Organ Grinder, and To Me, They Live and Breathe. The previously released extras are B-Roll and Bloopers Video Cast Commentary, From Location: Joel Silver Reveals the House of Wax, Wax On: The Design of House of Wax, The House Built on Wax: The Visual Effects of House of Wax, Alternate Opening: Jennifer Killed, Gag Reel, Vintage interviews with cast and crew from the electronic press kit, a vintage featurette, and the theatrical trailer.

Definitely pick up this Collector's Edition of House of Wax (2005) if you're a fan.
