'Blood Quantum' movie review

By Renee Childs, MoreHorror.com,

Shudder has recently announced that they hit their first one million subscribers, and films like BLOOD QUANTUM are a huge part of that success. Movies that horror fans are enjoying, yet they are often not huge theatrical or studio releases. And that's just what the doctor ordered.

Blood Quantum is a about a Canadian tribal reservation that is infused by zombies accompanied by some fun, gory moments.

During this pandemic, it's been nice to be able to turn to Shudder for some horror goodness while we wait for the opportunity to gather with our friends.

“Blood Quantum” channels a lot of Romero, but the dialogue needs some help, as do most new horror films. Okay, seriously, hot tip to all screenwriters, please try having actual conversations with real people and pay attention to how people converse. It’s not the 90’s anymore and mimicking 90s dialogue doesn’t scan well with fans. Blood Quantum does a fairly good job avoiding that irritating trap for the most part, but not entirely.

For the most part “Blood Quantum” is gory and tightly woven, consisting of a lot of blood and the action is nicely paced and produced. There’s a nice twist that I won’t spoil, but it has something to do with the indigenous people, and I enjoyed it.

“Blood Quantum” looks good visually but lacks a bit in the directing and dialogue areas. Contrary to popular belief, B-horror films don’t always have to feel like B-horror films, especially if it’s not intended.

Shudder fans will definitely want to give this one a go, though. Especially those not tired of the zombie genre.

Blood Quantum Synopsis:

The dead are coming back to life outside the isolated Mi'kmaq reserve of Red Crow, except for its Indigenous inhabitants who are strangely immune to the zombie plague.
