Here's a quick explanation (and full audio clip) of a song we just finished mixing and mastering for the death metal band Mangled Carpenter. You can listen to the full mixed track for FREE on our site here on our site or here on Spotify or Bandcamp.

With this song, Mary's Seven Demons, we really wanted to get a nice balance with the drums and vocals in addition to a killer heavy tone going for guitar. For the guitars we ran the ESP LTD through the Death Metal pedal from Digitech and tweaked the tone. We recorded through our new equipment upgrade secret weapon A/I unit, the Scarlett Solo from Focusrite. Then we added a slick customized delay plugin from Softube.

For the drums, they were written, arranged and mixed mostly within the EZ Drummer 2 ToonTrack interface. The Death Metal expansion was used and on a side note, it's brutal.

The vocals were done using a custom delay plugin and we really wanted to bring out the deeper growls and screams without drowning the mix. What we ended up with was a nice balance for the over all mix and master.

We utilized both Pro Tools and Acid Pro 8 for the mixing process. Most of the master was completed with custom settings from the Drawmer S73 Intelligent Master Processor and polished off with our own custom settings via the True Iron vst plugin from Kazrog.
