Just checked out the new Marilyn Manson single 'The End', a cover version of the original song by The Doors.
The tune seems to channel Faith No More and Pink Floyd more than The Doors, or the typical Marilyn Manson we're used to hearing. Strangely the song isn't as creepy as the original is, that was a surprise.
Mostly piano and vocal driven, the song is fairly mellow for the majority of the tune. A lot of left/right ear switches for the vocals that help the mix. Toward the end of the 8 minute 29 second track, we get a bit more heavy sounding Manson style, where most off the song shows of the talented singer's vocal range, toward the end we get the familiar Marilyn Manson screams. Several f bombs. You know, rock n roll (and one of The Doors most controversial songs lyrically speaking).
How's the Mix? Well it's pretty good. The drums are mellow so the snare is appropriately in the back of the mix. The vocals and piano are balanced well. There are some "speaking vocals" that get a bit monotonous, and they added a few reverb effects which certainly help the monotony.
There's some "snake rattle" and tambourine FX and violins that show up under the drums and vocals. They fit pretty well overall. I think they found a good blend of updated music and production met with a nice homage to the original song. Would definitely enjoy remixing this song a bit. Final Mix Score: 4.1/5
